Toddler obstacle course in a playroom with tunnel, foam blocks, tent andtoys

Indoor Toddler Obstacle Course

Keeping a busy toddler entertained and active can be quite challenging during a normal winter let alone during pandemic lockdown. I find a way to keep my toddler infinitely busy is creating an indoor obstacle course! Every time I make them they are different and fun!

What do you need?

ANYTHING! Literally anything…. whatever you have in your house is fair game. Below I have included what I used to give you some activities!

1) Get your toddler excited by collecting items to USE in your indoor toddler obstacle course (pillows, soft blocks, etc)

2) Set it up! Some ideas include:

  • A crawl zone: Have them crawl through a kids tunnel (don’t have one, that’s OK! drape a blanket over furniture)
  • Test their balance by crawling over pillows or soft climbing blocks
  • Hop like a kangaroo (or whatever their fav animal is)
  • Climbing up and over bed, chairs or couches.
  • Running in circles around something (a fav in our house)

3) Walk them through the course – bonus points if you do it to show them!

4) Turn on some tunes and yell GO!  Nothing gets kids moving better than music and yelling to run (fair warning, if anyone in the house is working it can get quite loud)

5) Before your toddler gets tired of the activity try changing it up.  Make them do it backwards, or have them hop through the entire course.

Happy playing!
