Buying a Cricut in Canada: Customer/Shipping experience from Cricut.com

Buying items from a US website/company as a Canadian can be a little tricky. Does Cricut ship to Canada? Does Cricut have a website in Canada (spoiler: it does!)? Use BTS50 to get FREE SHIPPING on $50+ orders!) so you know what to expect and decide if it is right for you. Obviously all experiences will vary but if you are curious to know what it is like, I have detailed it (probably too detailed!!) for you below.

Working out the Math for a Canadian buying from Cricut.com:

Its always comforting to buy from the source and when talking about a larger purchase like a Cricut machine there is a peace of mind buying it direct from cricut.com especially for warranty purposes, and for troubleshooting any problems etc.  Additionally, the prices across the border are always better than we find up here. However, there is a ton of math involved to see if it is actually worth it and also figuring out the Cricut Canada shipping experience compared to a local store.

A few factors to consider:

The exchange rate:

**NEW!!** The Cricut website recently started showing their products in CAD currency (when on the Canadian website not on the US version) so when you are considering it as an option you no longer need to figure out what the exchange rate will be when you buy it!!

    • TIP: the website still defaults to the US site so make sure you are viewing the Canadian site to ensure you are seeing prices in CAD currency (Click here for the link to the Canadian site). If you try to check out in the US site it will let you and then give an error at the last step
Additional Discounts:

If you subscribe to Cricut access (We have outlined the cost and benefits of Cricut Access for you here!) then you receive 10% off including machines and 10% off materials (or 20% if you get premium access!). NEW!! If you are an access subscriber you get a $10 off coupon (4 times a year!) that can be applied to anything in your order and includes free shipping (current code is SUMMER10! They also have Cricut exclusive sales that make buying common materials WAY cheaper than some of the off-brand ones so make sure you check it out.

Discount Codes:

One of the main benefits of ordering from Cricut’s website is that you can pair your access discount with a coupon code for even more savings. In general this type of code only works on materials and tools (not machines) but its absolutely worth using one of these! Especially if you upgrade to a bundle, the discount applies to the bundled items.

You can only use one discount code per order but it CAN be stacked with the Cricut Access discount. Cricut does frequently change the codes and type of discounts offered on these codes.  Currently, the best codes to use are 1) the $10 off coupon for access members ( SUMMER10) 2) Join the email list for $10 off your order – this is great for non- access members! 3) Join the official Cricut facebook group as it has a group discount code that is usually quite good! (Pro tip โ€“ join the group if you buy a Cricut โ€“ its a fantastic community!)

Arrival time:

Shipping does take a little bit longer than buying local (see below for how long shipping usually takes) but it always still shows up within a week.

Taxes/ duties/shipping cost:

The base price INCLUDES taxes and duties and there are always options for free shipping.  If you are a Cricut Access Premium member shipping is free over $50 and many times they have sales that include shipping over $100 โ€“ check before you buy!

There is a current coupon code! Use BTS50 to get FREE SHIPPING on $50+ orders! for anyone! You dont need to be an access subscriber

Check the box!

Check what is included in the box!  Machines do typically come with a few accessories like mats and a blade.

Bundles/sales:

Always look to see what bundles and sales are available. Bundles are the BEST deal in my opinion. The reason being, a Cricut needs supplies and materials to start creating so you would need to buy them separately.  This way you get massively discounted materials that you can practice with that you wont be upset if you a make a mistake on.

Accessories/Tools:

If you are ordering accessories then consider if a bundle may be right for you! If you want things that are not included in the bundle try adding a coupon code as they usually stack on top of access and work for accessories and materials (not sure what else you need โ€“ check out this post! it talks about the different tools and materials you need to use your Cricut machine)

How long does shipping typically take?

I know this is entirely dependent on where you live in Canada and how remote you are but I just wanted to give you an idea of my experience so that you may be able to estimate how long it may take for you.

I order fairly frequently from Cricut.com and on average it takes 5 days to receive my package (I live in a suburb of a large city for context).  The longest it has ever taken was 10 days and that was a boxing day purchase so I expected the delay and the quickest has been 3 days!

Navigating to the Cricut CANADA website:

If you are buying from the Cricut website, BEFORE you check out make sure you are on the Canada site or it will not let you check out.

  • Getting to the Canadian version of the Cricut website is sometimes a little tricky – this link points you to the Canadian website!
  • All prices are now listed in CAD!
  • If you do end up on the US website and need to change back to the Canadian version, you can change your country by doing the following steps:
    • When shopping, scroll all the way down to the bottom (literally until you can’t scroll any further!)
    • In the middle of the page there is a drop down with country selection, change it to Canada
  •

How is their Customer Care support?

Fantastic!  If you are a Cricut Access member you do get priority with their customer care team.  Calling through, I was able to triage myself through the priority line. The support agent was very helpful (the package was damaged during shipping) and the replacement process was quite simple.

The agent took all the information, validated the pictures and started the process of replacement quickly.  The entire call was 20 minutes total.  I was updated frequently by email as well so I knew the status of the replacement.

They did recently add a new call back feature for those of us who really dislike waiting on hold. It is absolutely fantastic as you can request a callback when an agent is available instead of having to wait on hold if they customer care line is busy. For me this was such a huge addition as I usually need to do things like this during my daughters nap time and this way I am not wasting that time on hold. I can go about doing other chores and pick up the phone when the call back came.

Overall, the experience with Canadian Cricut.com shipping and customer care is amazing and I have never had any difficulty (to be honest it is quite pleasant). When you pair Cricut Access, discount codes and their fairly frequent sales you can buy Cricut machines and materials at the lowest price than anywhere else in Canada. Also the process of Cricut Canada shipping is very quick and painless!

Happy unboxing,

Jo
