Creating a Doll Closet

I struggled with what to get my daughter this year for Christmas.  She is a year and a half old so she hasn’t formed any strong preferences towards specific types of toys yet. However, she has seemingly showed quite a lot of interest in her doll. So I thought a closet for her doll to hang all of the little clothes and hair bands would be a super fun idea. I didn’t want any large piece of furniture so I thought making it a rack style instead of a closed box would be fun. Keep reading to watch us create the closet or keep scrolling to read how!

Wine & Crafts: Creating a doll closet

What do you need to create a doll closet?

Here is what I used to make this fun Doll closet for my daughter

  1. Bamboo box as a base. I got mine from Dollarama and is ~9″x6″
  2. Basswood: I cut out the doll hangers using my cricut (see below how) but Amazon has doll some doll hangers if you don’t have a cricut
  3. No More Nails: I used no more nails instead of superglue or hot glue as I find it holds better
  4. Clamps: These are optional but I find having clamps when doing something like this is super handy
  5. Doll clothing: Make sure you check to see what size doll you have before you order the clothing!
  6. Wood Dowels: I personally liked the look of a square dowel on the side and round as the rack but you could use either shape. I used 12″ dowels for the size but you can adjust depending on the size of the doll clothing you are making.

How to put it together:

Assembling the Doll Closet

  1. Lay out everything you need. There is nothing worse than starting a project and not having everything you need ready!
  2. Mark the centre point on the outside of the short side of the wood base
  3. Run a bead of no more nails down the centre of the line and attach the dowel. Use a clamp to hold it in place
  4. I chose to drill a hole in the square dowel to run the clothing bar through it however you can simply glue the round dowel to the top of the square dowel
  5. Let it dry overnight
  6. Cut out the hangers (keep reading to see how!)
  7. Hang the doll clothing and decorate however you would like!

Cutting the hangers

I ended up using my Cricut to cut the hangers for the doll clothing. Mainly because I am obsessed with all things Cricut and also because I do prefer the aesthetic of wood over plastic.

I have Cricut access, so I simply searched for hangers in images. I used image #MEFB00. I hid the top layer and then unlocked the image and resized to W4.7″ x H 2.6″. This size worked perfectly for my daughters 12″ doll

I absolutely loved making this doll closet for my daughter that I ended up making half a dozen and gave them out to all of her friends for Christmas! Such an easy gift and one that any toddler who is into dolls will absolutely loved.
